Imerovigli is one of the most famous resorts in Santorini, only a few kilometers from Fira.
Skaros the famous fortress was the capital of Santorini until the 18th century, it was built at the end of the Byzantine period by the Venetians who came to Santorini in the 13th century AD. The whole village was built around the upper castle.
Skaros is one of the five castles of the island, it was made mainly of stone and had at its entrance a movable wooden bridge from which some ruins still exist today. Skaros suffered serious damage from the eruption of the volcano in 1650 and later from the earthquake of 1817, so only a few ruins survive today, the abandonment of the village by
its inhabitants began in the early 17th century. In addition, the residents who left the village, removed the materials for the construction of their new homes in other parts of the island.
